Issues Briefing and Mock Appointments
Abolishing dower and adding a provision to the electronic notarization statute to require certification that a paper document matches the electronic document in counties that do not have electronic recording are OLTA’s top legislative priorities. OLTA’s staff and lobbying team will help you learn more about these issues and walk through a mock appointment to ensure you have a successful meeting with your legislators.

Please provide us with your home address and the OLTA staff will schedule appointments for you with your state representative and state senator. If you are new to these appointments, we can pair you with a mentor as well.  Your elected officials want to hear from you, their constituent! You’ll meet with your legislators or their aides and let them know what’s happening in your business and what bills are of interest to the title industry.

Claims Chronicles
Mike Wypasek, Chicago Title

This presentation will cover the claims process and how it works from the underwriter’s perspective. Claims ranked by type and frequency will be discussed, as well as some practical advice as to how to avoid them. The presentation will include some examples of claims that were filed and how the title ended up the way it did, causing the claim in the first place. The goal of the presentation will be to both discuss claims on a cost basis and some red flags to be aware of which might be a forewarning of an title issue to come.

Ethics in Ohio’s Title Industry
John Dyer, Esq., Nova Title Agency and Jason Cronsier, Hahn Loeser & Parks, LLP

This presentation will explore a number of items for Ohio title agents to consider related to ethics. You’ll learn more about recent court cases and their ethical applications to the real estate transaction, a look at OLTA’s Code of Ethics and frequently occurring issues in the title industry related to ethical considerations.

Continuing Education

  • We have applied for 6.0 General CLE from the Ohio Supreme Court
  • We have applied for 6.0 General CLE credit hours from the Kentucky Bar Association
  • This seminar has been submitted to the Ohio Department of Insurance for 5.0 Title CIE including 1.0 Ethics CIE credit hours. The course level is intermediate.
  • The experience and qualifications of the instructors is available upon request.
  • To receive continuing insurance education (CIE) credit, you must do the following for each session (an exam is not required to receive credit)

Partial CIE credit can be given to attendees of this seminar. The credit must be rounded down to half hour increments.

Requirements for Continuing Legal Education credit have not changed. You are still required to provide your Attorney Registration Number to receive credit.

Cancellations
Cancellations received by noon, February 25, 2019 will be refunded, less a $50.00 fee. After that date, those not attending will receive any seminar materials in full consideration of fees paid. Substitutions of participants are permitted. Registrations will be limited to available space.
