The Ohio Land Title Association invites you to participate in the 111th Annual Convention. The exhibits and education will be held virtually. While most of the education will be available on-demand 24/7 on the OLTA website, we will have two mornings of live programming, September 22-23.

Opening Session and Keynote Address
Join us live online for the kickoff of the 111th Annual Convention. OLTA President Chip Brigham will give his State of the Industry Address and acknowledge the new class of Ohio Land Title Professionals. The Honorary Life Membership and Meritorious Service Awards will be presented. The morning will wrap up with our keynote speaker, Michelle Steinke-Baumgard discussing managing grief and trauma, including how we can better take care of ourselves, our employees and our co-workers.

OLTAPAC Virtual Breakfast
Enjoy a box of cereal, courtesy of OLTAPAC, and hear an update on the upcoming election both from the federal and state level while supporting OLTA’s Political Action Committee. Suggested donation to participate is $50 made by personal check or credit card to OLTAPAC. Those who have contributed to OLTAPAC in 2020 can sign up for this event with their Convention registration.

Closing Session and ALTA Update
Join ALTA President Mary O’Donnell as she swears in the new officers and trustees to the OLTA Board. Dione Joseph will be sworn in as the 2021 OLTA President. We’ll also be providing an update as well as recognizing OLTAPAC donors and present the President’s Award. Mary O’Donnell will also discuss strategic priorities that ALTA focuses on to represent the interests of the title industry at the federal level.

2020 Ethics for Title Insurance Agents

2020 Ethics for Title Insurance Agents – Title agents are at the center of the real estate transaction which is often the largest financial transaction of the consumers’ lives. Let’s Be Careful Out There”: Identification of Cyber Fraud and Elder Abuse in the Title Industry

Join Russ Kutell for a discussion of how fraudsters are using the internet and innocent elderly victims, some of whom are relatives of the fraudsters, to wreak havoc with your closing operations.  Russ will discuss several cyber fraud schemes and elder abuse examples and how you can identify and avoid problems associated with them. 

Case Law and Legislative Update

This session will address recently decided Ohio cases relating to title matters, including updates on real property valuation methods in tax appeals, how different foreclosure methods affect title, the validity of reversionary rights in recorded instruments, the modification of express easements, and the creation of implied easements. This session will also address Ohio’s Notary Public Modernization Act, and its implementation over the past year.

Education Sessions

  • We have applied for 9.0 general CLE credit hours to include 1.0 hour of Professional Conduct from the Supreme Court of Ohio.
  • We have applied for 9.0 CLE to include 1.0 hour of ethics from the Kentucky Bar Association.
  • We have applied for 8.0 title CIE and 1.0 ethics CIE credit hour from the Ohio Department of Insurance. 
  • The course level is intermediate.

To receive continuing insurance education (CIE) credit, you must do the following for each session.    

  • If you are taking on-demand courses, you will complete an exam at the end of each course to receive credit.
  • Live Courses require completion of an online CE form and an evaluation in order for you to receive credit for the course.
