Cyber Crime Trends as it Relates to Title Agents, Insurers and Underwriters

Kenneth Bixby, Federal Bureau of Investigations
This session will give an overview of the FBI’s Cyber Crimes program outlining what types of cases are investigated, trends or attackers and the lifecycle of a cyber-attack will be discussed along with a look at financially motivated crimes as they relate to land title, insurance and the financial  industry. The session will conclude with recommendations and best practices for audience members to take to safeguard their information and the information of their clients and business.

Retaliation Claims: Revenge is a Dish Best Not Served”

The session will cover substantive issues regarding state and federal retaliation claims.  It will review the basic elements of a retaliation claim, recent case law and best practices in managing employment relationships to avoid or resolve retaliation based claims.  The session will also include both practical recommendations and substantive legal analysis.

Ethics for the Title Insurance Agent and Dirt Lawyer

An overview and discussion of the Code Sections, Ohio Department of Insurance Bulletins and the Code of Professional Responsibility governing the ethical and legal conduct of title insurance agents and attorneys.

The Ohio Land Title Association has reserved a block of rooms at the Hyatt Regency Columbus.  Please contact the hotel directly to make your reservation.  To receive the convention rate of $121/single, $131/double and $141/triple + tax per night, you must reference Ohio Land Title Association 2014 when you make the reservation.  The hotel will honor the rate until August 16, 2014.  OLTA guests can enjoy free self-parking.  Valet parking is available at a charge of $25 overnight and $14 per day.

Continuing Education

  • We have applied for 9.5 General CLE from the Ohio Supreme Court
  • We have applied for 9.5 CLE credit hours from the Kentucky Bar Association
  • This seminar has been submitted to the Ohio Department of Insurance for 9.5 title CIE including 2.0 Ethics CIE credit hours. The course level is intermediate.
  • The experience and qualifications of the instructors is available upon request.
  • To receive continuing insurance education (CIE) credit, you must do the following for each session (an exam is not required to receive credit)

    Partial CIE credit can be given to attendees of this seminar. The credit must be rounded down to half hour increments.

    OLTA will only accept National Producer Numbers (NPN) for Continuing Insurance Education credit. We cannot accept social security numbers or license numbers. To find your NPN, visit

    Requirements for Continuing Legal Education credit have not changed. You are still required to provide your Attorney Registration Number to receive credit.
