Join your title industry colleagues for a reception at Columbus’s Center of Science & Industry (COSI) featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks. The reception will be held in the museum’s Progress exhibit where you’ll travel through time and interact with the technology from 1898. Then turn a corner and find yourself generations later - in 1962 - in that same town. Plan to join us for this fun and entertaining evening as you stroll back through history. Foreclosure Issues for Title Examiners, Loan Closers, and Escrow Officers

When it comes to foreclosures, claims can be better avoided at all stages: at the front-end when a loan is closed; when issuing judicial reports for the foreclosure; and when examining the title following the completed foreclosure. In this segment, you will learn the answers to the following: How can loan closers and escrow officers improve their processing to avoid claims? What should title examiners be on the lookout for? How can the title agent best help the foreclosure attorney, to get the foreclosure done right and ensure a clean title? What defects in a completed foreclosure can result in a title issue?

In this session, participants will learn how to properly respond to a wire fraud incident. Your initial actions can improve any chance of recovery funds and/or identifying perpetrators. This program will identify whom to contact and the importance of preserving transaction logs and communications that are crucial to further investigation. A list of Best Practices to prevent wire fraud will also be provided.

Title Agent Defalcations and Bad Acts Ethical concerns for Title Agents

Hear from a trio of experts that have dealt with defalcations and unethical acts by Title Agents over the past 30 years. You will be given a history of how and when defalcations happen, by whom, how they went undetected, and how they got discovered. You will also hear several case studies of defalcations and the effect upon consumers, legal responsibilities of the title agent, and steps for preventing future defalcations from ever happening.

This session will offer an overview of the Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy process. The panelists will discuss the differences between the two chapters, the effects of filing bankruptcy on a debtor’s title to real estate, automatic stay issues, how a lien is discharged in bankruptcy, and other bankruptcy issues.
